We’ve had lots of clouds the last few days, they made for some nice black and white photos. I seem to be stuck in a square phase these days….
I’ve been liking square black and whites lately. No doubt a result of shooting with an iPhone so much. These were all taken with a “real” camera. Canon 85mm f/1.8 lens and extension tubes {Adorama} to allow me to focus closer without buying a macro lens.
…actually, “Monochrome Landscapes” might be more accurate, but whatever….
Spring is still here….
A few photos from our hike up Old Rag today. We didn’t do the entire “Circuit” route, just did a little up and back.
Most definitely not SOC (straight out of camera)….
Is it okay that I usually like the iPhone photos more than the ones taken with a “real” camera? The first three are iPhone photo, the rest with a “regular” camera.
I took this one last week. I didn’t like it straight out of the camera…but I think what’s below is a pretty good interpretation of what I felt I was seeing at the time I took the photograph.
I shot this first one a few days ago, but just got around to processing it. It’s in the field out behind the silo on the Clore property…Hoover Ridge.
….not mine, but it was somebody’s “home place”….quite a while ago I would think…
All of these are digital infrared. And, one of the problems when shooting digital IR is that there is more lens flare when shooting into the sun, I assume it’s due to the changing around of filters in front of the sensor. Sometimes it bugs me, in this case I like it. It gives a better feel for the direction of light.
And, the last one is my favorite. Also digital IR, but also HDR, three exposures combined to give more dynamic range. You can really feel the light coming through the window.
I’m having a hard time narrowing down the pictures, so there are quite a few….
This is how it started….
…then went to this, and that’s when I realized it was going to be especially good. I hopped on the four-wheeler so I could cover more ground, and hopefully find better foregrounds. It’s always nice to have something meaningful in front of the sunset.
I had a little trouble with the cow in the middle in the photo below. She kept wanting to eat. I had to keep yelling to get her to keep her head up 🙂

I turned around and saw this….
Back on the four-wheeler to look for a different foreground…
….and then it was gone….

I like this one for some reason….it has an interesting feeling about it…
